Moving the Industry: Introducing New AED Member Shoppa’s Material Handling Ltd.

In October, Shoppa’s Material Handling Ltd. joined AED, attracted by the many valuable resources the organization offers to dealers, says President Jim Shoppa. “We are very excited to take advantage of the reports,” he says, “as well as the training and networking opportunities available.”

The reports he refers to include compensation studies and industry-specific reports like the Rental Report. Shoppa also expressed interest in obtaining AED’s assistance with recruitment and involvement with the local technical school, intending to “utilize resources around industry benefits, workforce development, technical training, growth strategies and resources for best practices like safety.”

One of the most significant benefits Shoppa is counting on from AED membership is the opportunity to form new relationships. “We hope to be able to network for vendor relationships. Relationship building is our highest priority. We work every day for our customers,” he says, proudly pointing out that they have many long-standing customers.

First move

The full-service Toyota forklift dealership, with headquarters in Ft. Worth, Texas, was established in 1981. Now with seven additional branches in Texas – Amarillo, Lubbock, Odessa, Wichita Falls, Brownwood, San Angelo and Saginaw – and another in Kansas City, Missouri, Shoppa’s is one of the fastest-growing dealerships in the country. They have nearly 500 employees, some of whom have been with the company for over 20 years.

“We are an authorized Toyota forklift dealer,” says Shoppa, “but in addition, we offer a comprehensive array of products, services and integrated systems that help our customers streamline the storage and movement of their goods.”

Known for providing material handling solutions, including system design, equipment integration, project management, fleet optimization and logistics solutions, the company considers itself a one-stop-shop for customers needing complex warehouse solutions.

Growth of a company

Shoppa modestly credits his business success with the quality products his company represents. His main line is backed by the Toyota name and Toyota’s commitment to quality, he says.

Fifteen-time recipient of the Toyota President’s Award, Shoppa’s has expanded on their anchor brand and now represents a comprehensive line of industrial and warehouse equipment, such as pallet jacks, aerial equipment, narrow aisle fork lifts, pallet racking, floor cleaning equipment, robotic solutions and utility vehicles; Advance industrial floor cleaning equipment; Fetch Robotics; E-Z-GO golf carts; and Cushman utility vehicles.

As a critical part of the supply chain, Shoppa’s had to pivot the business’s focus with the advent of COVID-19 to serve their customers’ changing needs better. But ultimately, their mission remains the same: to help customers move goods in the safest, most efficient and most productive manner possible.

“Our core values are integrity, respect, empathy, humility and commitment,” he states. Those values will ensure that Shoppa’s fits right in with AED and its membership.
