A New Year, Brings New Changes!

As my time as AED’s chairwoman comes to an end, I would like to send my sincerest thank you to each and every AED member. It has been my honor to work with AED to help in the growth and support of this industry, as well as to have the opportunity to be AED’s first chairwoman in its 99-year history. I have been lucky to be able to work with AED on projects I am passionate about continuing, and creating opportunities for you, the members.

I worked with AED to create two projects that were very important to me. The Women in Construction Equipment Distribution Roundtable brought many successful women together to talk about issues facing women in the industry, and how we can encourage more women into the industry. This roundtable was informative, eye-opening and empowering not only for me, but for everyone involved. This event led to the creation of the Women’s Roles in the Construction
Equipment Distribution Industry Report, which analyzed the discussions from the roundtable and brought forward possible solutions to the issues facing women in the industry.

The Supervisory Skills Seminar took place in Rosemont, Illinois, on December 6. This event grew from a need I saw that The AED Foundation could help fill. The seminar, for new or established supervisors, helps recharge their skills and introduces them to strategic management concepts of people analytics and workforce planning.

Looking forward, I am excited to see you all at the AED Summit in Orlando, Florida, from February 4 to 7 for my last hurrah as your chairwoman, and to pass the torch on to our new chairman, who will help AED celebrate its 100-year anniversary.

AED will continue its work with women in the industry with a women-in-construction-equipment reception on Monday, February 4. I invite everyone, both women and men, to attend this reception, where we will discuss the next steps to encourage women within this industry. Change cannot happen without the help of everyone and we will not see change until everyone is working together toward a common goal.

AED has set up a great event, so your time in Orlando will be well spent. Over 35 education sessions will be taking place along six tracks, including sales, management, leadership, product support, rental and technology. This will be a great opportunity for your team to divide and conquer these sessions and share what you learned!

World-class speakers will take the stage during our general sessions, including Former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives John Boehner, futurist Rich Karlgaard and an OEM panel discussion.

The CONDEX floor is close to selling out, with manufacturers and service providers eager to share with you their new products and services that can benefit your organization. This includes attachments, business software, earthmoving equipment and more. You will also have the opportunity to host or visit a suite of suppliers to forge stronger relationships with companies that can support your business.

Again, I would like to extend a thank you from the bottom of my heart for the welcome I’ve received as AED’s first chairwoman. I look forward to seeing everyone at Summit and continuing my work with AED in new ways.
