Wherever your giving priorities may be, the great thing about giving is that it always rewards the giver.
It is very complicated to understand what it is going to take to jump start our economy again. This is especially true with our challenges coming from a global perspective. Politics, timing, capitalism pressures, and wars all contribute to the complex nature of global economies.
Taxes are also included, but of course, no one really likes the prospects of taxing more. When it comes down to it, I think, instead, that contributionsare much more effective that mandatory taxes – it’s contributions that really make a difference in people’s lives, whether it is by contributing to the needs in our communities, churches, or many of our charitable organizations. This kind of giving comes from the heart. Fortunately, our country still protects our financial charitable contributions. But how much longer will that last?
I wonder what we will be known for one day. Will it be the way we consumed, or the way that we gave?
More Blessed to Give...
There is also great value as we look at sharing our talents, skills, and time with those around us in need. The various communities we serve around our homes and businesses have plenty of stress keeping up with the needs of those they serve. How can we argue with that famous phrase from Scripture: “It is more blessed to give than to receive?” We all have experienced the feeling we get when we have given to a great need, for example, our children. The greater the giving, the greater the feeling, right?
There are contributions we can be making to our industry as well. There are opportunities where we can give forward and invest in our industry’s future for generations to come. Many of our members have given to the AED Foundation over the years as faithful contributors or investors. There are many that have not. I would like to challenge those that could be contributing and are not. To those who do contribute to the Foundation’s work, thank you! It’s for all of us to consider: Can I give a little bit more?
Our Washington office uses our giving to benefit us, as well, through the Washington Education Fund (WEF). The goal of WEF is to educate and inform our members of Congress about the issues that impact our industry. Your pledges make it possible to professionally reflect our industry and infrastructure needs, tax issues, and national affairs with your elected officials.
In addition, your AED staff and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) aggressively executed several ‘Start Us Up USA’ rallies around the country over the last year. Many of you have participated in one or more of these rallies – additional contributions are still needed for the successful completion of this grassroots campaign. Your contribution will not go to waste and is needed to enable our industry to have a voice in our communities, state capitals, and Washington D.C.
Your membership is very important to our industry, and you will find that your active participation with AED is not only vital to the ongoing success of our association and the equipment distribution industry, but is also very rewarding to you and your company as a whole. Thank you for your continued support and contribution to AED.
