Thirty-five years ago on Aug. 16, 1972, Lenny Sadler opened the doors of his Ditch Witch of West Texas dealership in Amarillo. To honor this accomplishment, Sadler, together with his employees, opened their doors Sept. 28 and honored the customers that have kept them in business.
More than 200 people arrived to show their support, along with one "super" trencher - the Ditch Witch Super Witch. Sadler sells a similar trencher with a 95-hp engine, but the Super Witch, which the OEM brought out for the occasion, has an 850-hp engine.
"We intended to show appreciation for our customers," said Sadler. "Without them we wouldn't have been here 35 years."
The event served as a way to build camaraderie among customers and employees alike, and was so successful Sadler says they'll host another customer appreciation event next year.
"It was a great bonding experience, especially for our shop guys," said Sadler. "They are in the back and don't get to mingle with the customers but they did on that day and they loved it."
Sadler says he can't take all the credit for making it 35 years - he's backed by a great team.
"Whatever it takes - that's our culture," says Sadler. "Our guys understand that we do whatever it takes to satisfy the customer. Everyone is empowered to do so - that's the key."
