Help make AED even stronger - invite a nonmember to the Annual Meeting.
How can it be?! My term as Chairman is quickly coming to an end. I cannot tell you what a delight and privilege it has been to be AED's 2007 Chairman. I've made so many new friends and acquaintances; I've learned so much from others and about myself, and I feel like my time has been well spent in helping to make AED a better and stronger association.
However, my term is not yet over and there is much to do. If anything, my legacy will be most importantly characterized in the areas of membership growth and development. In this regard, we really must step up our recruiting efforts during this pre-Annual Meeting period. Historically, our recruitment success is the greatest during the three months before the Annual Meeting. It is a time when potential members are aggressively solicited to participate in and attend the meeting.
The Annual Meeting is the greatest way for new and potential members to see AED up close and personal and quickly recognize the reality of our value proposition. At no other time of the year can they experience so much, including:
"Chicago in the winter?!" you ask.
- CONDEX, where manufacturers are looking for distributors and distributors are looking for manufacturers
- Networking at its best; with spectacular cocktail parties, hospitality suites, and just hanging around the lobbies putting our heads together
- World-renowned speakers and educators entertaining, captivating, and motivating us
- And the new group of volunteer officers becoming inaugurated and honored for their dedicated service. In 2008 it all happens in Chicago from January 10-12.
Well, if you were not aware, Chicago has always been among our most successful Annual Meeting venues; a place where business gets done. There are obviously not many outdoor distractions like golf or tennis, so you are thrust into and immersed in a positive and exciting business environment. I am obviously preaching to the choir if you are reading this article.
My point is that now is the time for every member to create a new member. Do your part for membership recruitment by bringing a potential new member to the Annual Meeting, sending an invitation to a new distributor or manufacturer to consider membership in AED; or passing a few potential membership leads to our staff involved in membership recruitment in Oak Brook, Ill. led by Mike Fotty, membership director, (630) 468-5133.
Most important, please don't forget about the Annual Meeting for yourself and your staff. The Chicago meeting is a place where people can learn, meet, develop, and get bitten by the AED participation bug. No one is going to be out boating, golfing, etc. Everyone is going to be tuned in and involved. Digging deeper into each of our organizations and having more people participate will be the best investment you can make.
See you in Chicago!
