SB Manufacturing is establishing a reputation for superior product and support.

The Berry Companies is well known throughout the construction equipment industry. One of its companies, broom manufacturer SB Manufacturing, is working to carve out its niche in the construction industry.

Drawing on their extensive equipment distribution experience and knowledge of the construction broom industry, the Berry Companies created  SB Manufacturing three years ago. They called upon Tom McBride to contribute his vast experience with the construction industry to help launch the new company. Today, McBride serves as the company's
vice president.

What was once an empty building on the Berry Tractor site in Wichita, Kan., quickly turned into an innovative manufacturing facility for the Superior Broom (SB).

"Berry Companies is in a unique position in that it understands the distribution side of the equipment business, and knows what distributors are looking for from a supplier like SB Manufacturing," says McBride.

The Superior Broom
According to the company, differentiation is key. And, with the name Superior Broom, SB Manufacturing is working to prove that their product is the best on the market.

What sets SB Manufacturing apart from the other broom manufacturers, according to McBride, is that the company is the first to offer a rear-axle suspension and computerized electronic boom controls. Other unique features include a broom variable displacement load compensated piston pump and the main control manifold with electronically operated valves. All functions are controlled from the operator's compartment by electronic pushbutton controls.

Care has been taken to ensure the operator's comfort, including 360-degree visibility and the lowest noise level on the market. Electronic controls allow the operator to control the brush speed without changing engine rpm. An advanced suspension system delivers a smoother ride with less stress on the main chassis, which also speaks to operator comfort. Additionally, the Superior Broom features a dust-free environment, which is crucial to operator comfort.

The Superior Broom is ideal for sweeping before and after new asphalt or concrete is laid, for sweeping behind milling machines, for asphalt chip and seal jobs, and for general cleanup on road construction projects.

Due to an efficient hydraulic system and low oil temperature levels, the Superior Broom's hydraulics will run hundreds of hours longer than the competition before needing replacement, according to McBride.

Options for the sweeper include a 170-gallon water system, a 7-1/2-foot scraper blade, a curb and gutter brush and a tow bar.

Looking for Dealers
The company plans to expand its dealer network this year.

"We are looking for AED dealers," says McBride, "because they are good solid companies, and they carry a wide variety of equipment that lends itself to our sweeper."

The Superior Broom is an excellent complement to rollers and asphalt pavers, as many of the same customers interested in these products consider the Superior Broom, says McBride.  The broom not only is excellent for new and used sales, but it also translates to rental easily.

"It's a money-maker for dealers," says McBride. "It's something that's profitable, and it's a great rental item."
According to McBride, a dealer's rental return rate is one of the highest in the industry. "When a dealer is considering
taking on a new line, they are interested in the quality of the product, service after the sale, and whether it will generate revenue," says McBride. "We provide all of these to a dealer and more."

SB Manufacturing provides outstanding service after the sale. As for parts and service, the company's philosophy is to provide 100 percent parts availability with overnight delivery. There are no backorders.

"If a customer needs a part," says McBride, "they can have it the next morning."

In addition, he says, "the Superior Broom opens up new markets for dealers."
