In January, thousands of enthusiastic equipment dealers, manufacturers and service companies met at AED's Annual Meeting & CONDEX to discuss the issues and opportunities that face the distribution industry in 2005.

From the Business Session on the first morning to the Inaugural Dinner on the final night, the mood was positive throughout the convention as dealers and manufacturers looked forward to - and planned for - another excellent year in 2005.

Business sessions at the convention included presentations by Rick Blesi (far left), publisher of Construction Equipment magazine, who presented the 2005 Annual Report & Forecast for the equipment industry and economist and forecaster Dr. Robert Genetski, who delivered an outlook for the economy. Author and senior-level coach, Steve Farber (left) encouraged the crowd to pursue "Extreme Leadership" in their companies and in their industry.

At the inaugural dinner, best-selling author, presidential speechwriter and columnist Peggy Noonan (right) delighted the crowd as she spoke about her experiences with Presidents Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

At CONDEX, attendees saw with the latest in equipment, products and services. This year's show hosted its first live demonstration.

One of the most popular sites at the show was the HKX booth, where tech school students raced the clock to install hydraulic kits on Deere, Komatsu, and Link-Belt, excavators. Students with the fastest times won scholarships; winners were able to install the kits in less than 45 minutes.

Another first this year at CONDEX, was "tech row" where technical school representatives were on hand to discuss programs and students with attendees.

AED University again presented a training program specifically for Sales, Rental, Parts and Service managers during the convention. And AED's first financial seminar was standing room only.

At the AED University sessions, managers learned new strategies for improving profitabiity in sales, rental, parts and service. Speakers at the sessions included Don Buttrey, Bob Currie, Dan Kaplan and Carl Tremblay. In addition, executive sessions were presented by Scott Miller, president of ESI Enterprise Services, on ownership transitioning and by Larry Linne, vice president consulting/sales for Manuel Lujan Agencies, on creative marketing to
contractors.

This year, AED presented it's first financial conference to a standing-room-only crowd. A few of the issues covered at the seminar were the latest tax issues; dealer valuation issues and new deferred compensation regulations. Presenters were Steve Pierson, partner at BDO Seidman; Craig McSavaney, CEO of Accruit; Donald Barnes, national tax office, BDO Seidman; Garry Bartecki, director of distributor services, BDO Seidman; and Marty Wiscott, director at Trenwith Valuations.

Hospitality suites were a buzz as manufacturers and service suppliers met with their dealers and customers.

Highlights included the CIT/AED welcome party, a party sponsored by CitiCapital, Detroit Diesel's ice cream party, a Ritchie Bros reception, lunches at CONDEX sponsored by Vibromax and IronWolf and a breakfast courtesy of Universal Underwriters.

Mark your calendars now to be a part of the 2006 AED Annual Meeting & CONDEX in San Diego, Calif., January 26-28, 2006. It will be spectacular!
