Newt Gingrich will be the keynote speaker at AED's 2006 Annual Meeting.
Former Congressman and Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich will be the keynote speaker at the AED/GE Commercial Finance Inaugural Dinner, Friday, January 27 during the 2006 Annual Meeting. Gingrich, sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers and Sentry Insurance, served as Speaker of the House from 1995 to 1999 and is credited with creating the “Contract with America” that led the Republican Party to victory in 1994 by capturing the majority in the U.S. House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years.
Under his leadership, Congress passed welfare reform, the first balanced budget in a generation, and the first tax cut in 16 years. In addition, Congress restored funding to strengthen national defense and intelligence capabilities, an action later lauded by the bipartisan 9/11 Commission.
“Speaker Gingrich is without a doubt one of the greatest thought leaders of our time for pro-business, pro-growth policies,” says Toby Mack, AED President. “Under his House leadership in the 90’s, many of the underpinnings of our current economic strength were put in place. His message will inspire AED members to continue to fight for growth-oriented policies in Washington and around the country.”
Gingrich has published 10 books, including the best-sellers “Winning the Future: A 21st Century Contract with America,” “Contract with America” and “To Renew America.” He is a member of the Defense Policy Board; serves on the Terrorism Task Force for the Council on Foreign Relations; is an Editorial Board Member of the Johns Hopkins University journal; and is an Advisory Board Member of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies. In addition, he was recently named co-chair of the UN Task Force, a bipartisan congressional effort to reform the United Nations.
AED’s 2006 Annual Meeting & CONDEX will be held January 26-28 in San Diego. For more information or to register, visit www.aednet.org/am.
